Thwaite Mills Watermill
About the venue
No one would suspect that during its working life the mill produced putty, prison bread and oil for Stephenson's Rocket. A guide in Victorian work clothes leads visitors through the bowels of the enormous building which drew all of its power from two gigantic water wheels. The restored Manager's House shows how many ordinary Victorians lived and worked. Admission Adult £2, concessions £1 and accompanied children 50p.
