Ballet 4 Tots in Hunslet
One of the most popular and graceful forms of dance in the world comes to Hunslet and we welcome anyone from beginners trying it out for the first time to advanced dancers keen to progress through exams, competitions and showcasing opportunities. Taught by Philippa, the Hunslet Club’s new Arts Development Worker. Philippa trained at Bretton Hall, The University of Leeds, to gain her BA (Hons) Dance International degree. She is a qualified dance teacher through the I.D.T.A. Philippa has taught dance and choreographed shows throughout West Yorkshire. Our ballet 4 tots sessions are designed to give children aged 18 months to 4 years the chance to make their first dancing steps together with a parent of carer. Sessions will be fun and lively giving the child the chance to grow and develop with a focus on balance and co-ordination, newcomers always welcome. Box Fit sessions are run by qualified trainers. Box-Fit is the way boxers train without having to get hit! This is a challenging and exciting way to push your Body a little harder. It is a great fat burning, cardio-vascular, strength, conditioning and toning exercise workout. Anyone with an interest in taking up or progressing with this sport should call down and spend some time at our boxing gym – you’ll be taught by coaches with top level experience, the place is smart and it's packed with the right equipment - it's also packed with camaraderie, friendship, teamwork and hard, hard work. Boxing has long been a major feature of The Hunslet Club and with great progress and achievement made by members who in time, have for example gone on to compete for the country at The Commonwealth Games. Two of our boxers in recent years have gone professional and won numerous titles. There is much up and coming talent to be found here on an evening. The group also gets the chance to perform in front of crowds and show just what they can do. Cheerleading uses organised routines made up from bits of gymnastics, dance, jumps, tumbling and stunts. Performing is really good fun as you get to wow the crowds and get a great reaction to your show of skills. Plus its great for helping you keep fit and make new friends. You’ll have the chance to enter dance competitions for different age groups, and you’ll be taught by Philippa, the Hunslet Club’s new Arts Development Worker. If you’d like to learn how to grow your own fruit and vegetables and cook up delicious meals and snacks, then this will be the group for you. Anyone aged 7 to 13 who’s keen will be welcome to join, you’ll have fun with food every week, both in our kitchen and outside in our garden (as long as the weather is alright!). One week you might be making a stir fry, the next it might be fruit smoothies, in fact you may even be able to suggest some of your own favourite foods which the group could also do. Nobody will go home hungry! Taylor-Mae who thought of the name for the club says "I think everyone should come because you’ll make tasty food and drinks." Brooke Rhodes who also helped name it says "I’m really looking forward to cooking better than my dad!" Spaces are limited so please phone to book in advance. The Hunslet Club has launched a programme of "football for tots" training for the youngest stars of tomorrow – aged as young as eighteen months old! "Football 4 Tots" allows parents to join in with having fun alongside their growing young children with an emphasis on enjoyment and gentle exercise. Says Craig Gilmore, Sports Development Worker at the charity based in South Leeds: "Each session is taught by FA qualified, First Aid trained, CRB checked and experienced coaches in a safe, non-competitive environment and we aim to encourage confidence, co-ordination, balance, agility, listening, sharing and communication skills amongst early years children." We have team age groups from toddler and reception class up to year 7 at school. Anyone is welcome to come along and join in with the training at our top class facilities, even if you don’t want to play for a team we are happy for you to get fit, meet new friends and learn new skills. Our teams compete in the Garforth Junior League. We are a flagship community partner to Leeds Utd FC and an FA Charter Standard Club and are signed up as part of the FA Respect Campaign to combat unacceptable behaviour in the game at every level - on the pitch and from the sidelines. This will be taught by a very talented singer and teacher, with plenty of performance experience. Whatever style of singing you want to learn he will be able to help nurture your talent and bring you to a performance standard ready for showcasing opportunities both here at the club and at events, competitions and community festivals.
