Children and young people have the support and information they need to have a healthy lifestyle
If I was Children’s Mayor of Leeds, I would like to ensure that children are fit and healthy so their future will be much more exciting.
It is suggested that many children are becoming overweight. If they do not do anything about it, and carry on eating unhealthy foods and not exercising, they might ruin their lives.
Firstly, I would ensure that children across Leeds have access to after school classes run by high school children. It will help the high school children with their G.C.S.E’s, if they are doing P.E. and it would also improve children’s lives, making them more healthy and less fat. It would also help primary school children because they would look up to the older children, thinking them sensible and so copy them. I think high school children from all areas of Leeds would volunteer to teach primary school children some skills they do not already know.
Secondly, I would encourage KS1 children to eat more fruit at playtime because as a playground friend I know that children just throw away their fruit. My idea is that each child would receive a raffle ticket for each piece of fruit they eat. Whoever has the most tickets in each class at the end of the year, earns a prize.
Finally, staying healthy is very important so I would make sure KS1 and KS2 eat healthy food at lunch time and don’t throw away their fruit and vegetables which often occurs at school. This could be achieved by kitchen staff and cooks creating new menus to disguise vegetables so children eat them without realising.
In conclusion, I believe that by implementing my ideas of creating an after school active class run by High school children and more fruit and healthier school dinners, Leeds will surely decrease the number of children who are unhealthy.
