Leeds Children's Mayor Candidate: Swarcliffe Primary School
Name: Jack Sheridan
School: Swarcliffe Primary School
Slogan: An app created by chidlren, for children
If I was children’s mayor of Leeds, I would introduce a child friendly app which would include: a way, in which children would be kept up to date with key events in our city; an opportunity for children to leave feedback about Leeds as a child friendly city; and special offers for fitness, educational places of interest, food and entertainment.
It is important to realise that when this APP is created, children from around Leeds will help to design and develop ideas about how it would appear on mobile phones and other pieces of technology. This is why my idea would be created for children by children. It’s the year 2013 and the majority of young people across the city would be able to access this APP. To make it affordable we could ask I.T companies to support and sponsor our Leeds Children’s mayor programme.
During school holidays I have often had days where I have been exceptionally bored because I have had no idea what was available for me, my family or friends to do. However, with this APP children would be made aware of such things. With the Tour De France coming to Leeds in 2014, this would be a great way for everybody to be kept up to date with this exciting event.
Over the past few years families and children have not had the money to visit educational places of interest, go out for food and visit the cinema or other attractions. Therefore, my idea will also include special offers available across Leeds to keep children happy, active and entertained. Clearly, a great way to extend this app would be to link it with Leeds Breeze, a programme that already has discounts for people under 19.
If we want Leeds to be a child friendly city, it is important the voice of children of all ages is heard. This APP will include a section where children can comment on their likes and dislikes about the city – helping to keep councillors constantly up to date with everyone’s views and opinions.
