Leeds Children's Mayor Candidate: Calverley C of E Primary School
Name: Lia Minchella
School: Calverley Church of England Primary School
Slogan: Fruit and Veg for Schools!
If I was Children’s Mayor of Leeds my main ideas to make Leeds a better place for children and young people are as follows.
My main idea is to have every school in Leeds growing fruit and veg throughout the school.
In order to achieve each school could run a local campaign by the school children making posters. The poster should explain the benefits of growing your own fruit and veg also asking for donations of money, gardening equipment, plats, seeds and asking for people to volunteer their time to help set up the scheme and the posters should clearly state the name of school.
Posters and leaflets should be distributed by children of the school they could do this for example on the street they live.
Once the scheme is up and running you could sell the fruit and veg after school by selling it in the playground to all the parents or you could give some to the school for dinners in order to save money. I’m sure Jamie Oliver would approve of this.
My idea not only educates children in school about becoming self sufficient it shows children that gardening can be fun.
My second idea is to do with recycling and upcycling, one day a month everyone brings in something that they don’t want anymore.
In order to achieve everyone must bring in something that they don’t want, the main idea is that the children and becoming more crafty, recycling things instead of throwing it away.
I had a pair of denim shorts and I transformed it into a bag, I plan to sell this bag.
This idea is saving money for the school by selling the objects after school in the playground.
