Leeds Children's Mayor Candidate: Bankside Primary School

Slogan: Learners today, leaders tomorrow
If I was Children’s Mayor of Leeds I would help the children in Leeds find jobs more easily. When people lose their job or struggle to find work, they can’t provide food for their family and I want to help everyone because they matter a lot.
I want to do this by getting local companies and businesses together e.g. supermarkets, hospitals (N.H.S.), hotels, solicitors, dentists mechanics, etc. To discuss how THEY can help young people be ready to work - as they will be the workers of tomorrow.
A big conference for Leeds businesses is what I think is needed and I could ask Leeds Chamber of Commerce to help. They have had a long history since 1851; they provide a service taking views and concerns to policy and decision makers.
Each business will be asked to think how they can help schools. The conference would be attended by young people too so they will be communicating with children and explaining what jobs are out there in the real world.
Here’s an idea of my own......
Businesses regularly come into Years 4, 5,6,7,8 and 9 classes (before GCSE choices are made) to explain;
the range of jobs there are in their companies (from cleaning tasks to admin tasks to human resources roles to specialised skills)
all the skills needed to do the various jobs
how to write a good cv
how to act in a job interview
what companies are looking for in future employee
Another suggestion is for cluster councils (children and young people) to invite the Leeds Chamber of Commerce group to come and share who they are and what do they do to help local businesses round Leeds.
There are thousands of young people who feel they are against a brick wall to find jobs and I am certain this will help all pupils around Leeds and also older children.
Thank you for reading my manifesto.
