Gig in a Week

Date: 05 Jul 2012
For young people aged 11 -18, 31st July - 4th August
The Big Hoo-Ha Co is once again (for the 9th year) running its popular music project ‘Gig in a Week’ for young people aged 11 to 18, from Tuesday 31st July to Saturday 4th August.
During the five day project, led by multi-instrumentalist musicians, participants work together in bands to make up their own versions of existing songs (or their own songs). On the Saturday evening they perform at a gig with full lighting and sound rigs.
Anybody who loves to sing or plays an instrument (any instrument, whether it’s an electric guitar, drums, violin, tuba, or anything else!) is welcome. No previous experience of playing in a band or performing live is needed.
Instrumentalists should have a reasonable level of ability, but part of the fun of the project is building confidence and learning new skills, as it’s suitable for experienced players and those at an earlier stage. The week is often a stepping stone to more involvement in music- for example, four young people who met for the first time at last year’s project went on to form a band which is now playing at this year’s CultureShock Festival at the Great Yorkshire Showground.
The project takes place at The Woolpack Music Studios (The Big Hoo-Ha Co’s great new resource right in the centre of Otley), from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day. The gig is at Otley Courthouse Arts Centre at 7.30 p.m. The cost for the week is £120 per person.
For further information and booking please contact Richard Sabey of The Big Hoo-Ha Co, either by email at info@bighooha.co.uk or phone on 07956 205151. Places are limited, so early booking is advisable. Information is also available on the websites www.bighooha.co.uk and www.facebook.com/woolpackstudios.
