And the Golden Owl Award 2012 goes to...

An exciting new filmmaking competition for young people from Leeds aged 3 – 19. The glittering Golden Owl Awards ceremony will take place on Thursday 29th March 2012 at Leeds Town Hall and will be the opening ceremony for the Leeds Young People’s Film Festival. It will be a ticketed, black tie event with celebrities and notables from the film, civic and business worlds. Entries are welcome from individuals, schools, colleges and community groups. A judging panel will nominate films from each age category to go forward to an Oscars style awards ceremony at Leeds Town Hall on 29th March 2012, with the winners being announced on the night. Who can enter? Any individual or group who has made a film in the last 12 months can submit this to the competition (application form and full details below). We welcome submissions from: • Individuals (if under 18, we will need parental permission) • Schools and Colleges • Youth and Community Groups Please note that Schools and Community Groups will need to complete a separate application form (see below).   The categories for this year’s submissions are age groups: • 3 -7 • 8 - 11 • 12 -15 • 16 -19 Any film which has been made in the last 12 months can be submitted and we welcome films of any genre, including animation, documentary and drama. Format for films and photographs: You must send a good quality copy of your film on DVD with each entry. Please do not send links to websites. Where possible, send high resolution photographs from the film on CD Rom and include them in your pack which should be clearly labelled with the name of the film and your name. Last date for submissions 4.00pm on Friday 10th February 2012. The films will go through a judging process and the selected nominees will be contacted during the week of February 20th 2012. The films submitted for the competition will remain with the Golden Owl Awards and form an archive at Leeds Film Academy in Leeds Town Hall. Unfortunately, DVDs will not be returned so please do not send a master copy of your film. Your film will also automatically be entered into the Indis – Independent Directions Young Filmmaker Award, a national competition within Leeds Young People’s Film Festival for Independent filmmakers aged 25 and under.
