Enjoy a musical encounter with ET, Harry Potter and Jaws!

Date: 02 Feb 2010

Following the success of the James Bond-themed film concert in 2008, Leeds International Concert Season is delighted to welcome back the Orchestra of Opera North on Sunday 21 February with an evening celebrating some of the most famous film music written by John Williams, conducted and presented by John Wilson.
Complemented by selected works from other prolific film composers such as Korngold, Waxman, Herrmann and Rosza, John Williams’ Heroes will include lots of recognisable themes from classic blockbusters including Star Wars, Jaws, ET, Schindler’s List and Harry Potter. Taking place at Leeds Town Hall, this concert is perfect for film buffs and music lovers of all ages!

Conductor and presenter for the evening, John Wilson is recognised internationally as an expert in the specialist fields of light music, jazz and music for screen. As a conductor John works on a regular basis with the Hallé, City of Birmingham Symphony, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic and BBC Concert orchestras and was recently appointed Principal Guest Conductor of the RTE Concert Orchestra in Dublin.

Born in Gateshead in 1972, John studied at the Royal College of Music and graduated in 1995 winning all the major conducting prizes and the coveted Tagore Gold Medal for the most outstanding student. He has produced countless orchestrations for film, radio and television, including the music for Kevin Spacey's film Beyond The Sea, the score of which was nominated for a 2006 American Grammy Award. He enjoys a close working relationship with Paul McCartney and he accepted an enormous challenge from MGM to reconstruct the lost orchestrations of their major musicals, including High Society, Singin' in the Rain and An American in Paris.

Tickets for John Williams’ Heroes are priced from £9.50 - £27.50 and concessions are available, including 50% off for under 18s, full time students and unwaged. Early booking is advised to avoid disappointment. To book, call the Box Office on 0113 224 3801 or visit www.leedsconcertseason.com.
