What’s the first book?

Our first Breeze Reads featured book is Anne Frank: the diary of a young girl

What’s it about?

This is a true story from the 2nd World War.

In 1942 in Amsterdam, Anne Frank and her family, who were Jewish, went into hiding to escape Nazi persecution. Anne recorded all her thoughts and feelings in the new diary that had been given to her for her birthday. For 2 years Anne lived in hiding, unable to go outside or make any noise. Writing in her diary was her way of being able to express herself:

“Who would ever think that so much can go on in the soul of a young girl?”

Unfortunately, Anne’s family were discovered and sent to different concentration camps. The only member of the family to survive was her father, Otto. He found her diary when he returned to Amsterdam after the war and decided to publish it as a book, in memory of Anne.

It has become a worldwide phenomenon with millions of people reading the book and being moved by Anne’s story.

Now it’s your turn to read her diary and share your thoughts and feelings with us.
