British Film Institute Film Academy Leeds

Are you 16-19? Passionate about film? Want a career in the film industry?

If so, the BFI Film Academy Leeds is for you.

Leeds Young Film in partnership with Beta Filmworks and Access Moving Image are running the BFI Film Academy 2015/6. The programme aims to help train and inspire the next generation of British filmmakers, supporting talented and committed young people aged 16-19 to develop the commercial and cultural knowledge and skills to help make a career in film a reality. The BFI Film Academy offers training for every film industry role, from writing and directing through to production, sound design, editing and camera, and provides learning around film history and cinematic storytelling to inspire a broad appreciation of film culture.
 
The NCFE accredited course runs from October 2015 – February 2016 including a week-long filmmaking project in October half-term and ends with a premiere screening at Hyde Park Picture House. Participants will get to work alongside professional directors, writers, producers and actors from TV programmes & films such as Emmerdale, Downton Abbey, 4 Lions, We Are Poets and Game of Thrones.

The cost to participate in the BFI Film Academy is £25 but if you will struggle to pay the course fee, don’t be put off as you will be able to indicate this once you are accepted on the course and this fee can be waived. Bursaries will also be made available if you require assistance with travel, child care or other costs.
 
Once you have completed the Network course, you will become part the growing BFI Film Academy alumni network with access to events such as BAFTA career talks. What’s more, you could also apply for one of six intensive residential programmes. Courses last between one and two weeks and are designed to develop more specialist filmmaking skills. You will work closely with leading industry professionals who will give you a unique insight into the filmmaking business and guide you along the way.
